A heavy groan escaped Karkat as he carefully stood back up onto his feet, dusting off the dirt and dust that clung to his clothing. He then reached up, wiping away the thick line of blood that dripped down from his nose. Yet again this week, he'd gotten in a fight with another local gang, which of course, was the same gang as last time. The thought caused him to shake his head as he bent down, picking his hat up and placed it back atop his head before straightening up.
After a quick self check -discovering that both his cheek and eye were swollen from where he'd been punched- he began walking out of the alley way and back onto the sidewalk. Where to go.. Where to go.. Karkat sighed lightly, rubbing lightly at his swollen cheek as he walked, hoping he wouldn't be bumping into that gang for a second time today. His gaze shifted to his right, just in time to notice a girl his age walk right past him drop a notebook of sorts without even realizing it. With another sigh, he bent down and picked it up, managing to catch up with her quickly. "'Ey, you dropped something!"

Nepeta had been walking home, she was in her school uniform as normal since she had just gotten off of school. She was in a bit a rush today and her notebook contain valuable notes for the pretest were located in said notebook so of course she would become a wreck without them. After all, she had to keep up with her perfection at school or else she would have a flip out attack from a simple failure like that due to her phobia. She stopped at hearing someone and turned around after all, she didn't know if it was towards her or someone. Noticing it was towards her he smiled as she saw the notebook within his hands before checking the notebook she had in hand to see if it was true and it very much was. She gave a light smile towards the other before speaking up, "Oh thank mew very much, kitten!" She cheered lightly even thought she had been scolded many times not to call a stranger kitten. She then took notice of the others swollen cheeks and eyes which made her smile turn upside down along with her mother instincts coming out. "What happened to mew?" She asked with a worried glint in her eyes even if she just met the guy she couldn't stand it when people looked like torn up rag dolls. It tore at her a bit at seeing the sight, really.
He arched a dark brow, obviously not enjoying being called a 'kitten' by a stranger. "Yeah, you're welcome." He responded after a moment. Karkat had just been about to stuff his hands into his pockets and walk away when the girl mentioned his swollen cheek and eye. Shit. He tugged his hat down lowly, making it so his eyes were now not visible. "Got jumped by a couple of assholes." He answered bluntly, turning his head away. "I'm fine though. The swelling will go down in 'bout an hour."
